Airman First Class (A1C) is the third enlisted rank, known as (E-3), in the United States Air Force, and is just above Airman and below Senior Airman. The rank of Airman First Class is considered a junior enlisted rank, with the non-commissioned officers (NCO) and senior non-commissioned officers (SNCO) above it.

AFJROTC[edit | edit source]

The duties of the Cadet Airman First Class (C/A1C) may now extend to the position of Element Leader. This is significant, as it may be the first real leadership position held by the cadet. With the increased grade comes increased responsibility, as now the C/A1C is considered a more experienced cadet and is no longer considered "new". A C/A1C can expect to start being held to highers standards and expected to show more leadership than new cadets.
