The Airman is the second lowest enlisted rank in the United States Air Force. It is above Airman Basic and below Airman First Class. Recruits become airmen upon completing basic training. The pay-grade of an airman is E-2.

In the Air Force Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps, a Cadet Airman has earned the first stripe of the cadet enlisted grades. A C/Amn is expected be able to hold the position of Assistant Element Leader in some units, and may serve in other duties. However, the cadet is still expected to have followership and familiarization when being assigned duties.
